Quantifying the X Factor of Design

How residents and visitors experience a city is all about design. Digi.City was fortunate to gather with some of the top design thought leaders and implementers for a Think Tank discussion with Metropolis' Susan S. Szenasy and Gensler Austin.

  • Simon Atkinson, Professor, Smart City Expert, The University of Texas, Austin
  • Chelsea Collier, Founder, Digi.City
  • Bonnie Reese, Director, Digital Experience, Gensler Austin
  • Todd Runkle, Principal/Managing Director, Gensler Austin
  • Moderator: Susan S. Szenasy, Director of Innovation, Metropolis Magazine

Gensler’s recent research insight, gathered from five markets across the US and a survey with over 4,000 respondents, proves that design greatly affects experience in urban environments. Among the key findings that emerged: Everyone is doing everything, everywhere.

This suggests that the ability to create public space that can be flexible and transform to support the different modes of its citizenry is critical. Leveraging technology to transform spaces will drive the future of urban design.

About Metropolis Think Tank

The Metropolis Think Tank is a continuing education program (AIA CEU HSW accredited) that travels to leading architecture and design firms in key markets throughout North America. Our Think Tank challenges architects, interior designers, manufacturers, and experts in design to examine the strengths and weaknesses of current design-thinking and building within the areas of Education, Workplace, Wellness, Hospitality and Urban Design. Resulting intelligence is shared across Metropolis’s media channels in book, online and with all of our participating partners. Metropolis Director of Design Innovation, Susan S. Szenasy, known for her provocative but supportive moderating style, will lead conversations, focusing on the human factor: In search of human and earth-centered design while looking at the collaborative opportunities between manufacturers, architects, designers, industry experts, clients, and thought-leaders.Think Tank Austin is supported by DXV/Grohe, Lutron, Sunbrella, Visa Lighting and Wilsonart.
