In the first 11 months of 2022, Smart Cities Dive’s must-read stories encompass a wide range of challenges facing city and transit leaders and the emerging policy, technology and funding tools they’re applying in response. 

City leaders have seen efforts to bring new high-speed rail lines to the U.S. stall, while they’re anticipating an influx of federal funding for Amtrak’s expansion. Some cities tested emerging technologies such as the metaverse, digital twins, and air taxis. New policies aimed to help expand the housing supply and reduce homelessness. City leaders grappled with the safe deployment of micromobility to expand residents’ transit options while also working to electrify their bus fleets. And they took other steps toward the electrification of cars and homes.
