Peachtree Corners launches fleet of teleoperated scooters for public use

The City of Peachtree Corners in Gwinnett County, Georgia, which is home to the Curiosity Lab smart city testbed, is launching what claims to be the first fleet of teleoperated e-scooters available for public use.

The scooters were created through a partnership with Go X and Tortoise (Go X created the scooter and ride hailing app, while Tortoise created the remote repositioning system).

Repositioning mandate

It follows Peachtree Corners passing an ordinance, mandating that all shared micro-mobility devices deployed are capable of automated repositioning to increase the accessibility of shared e-scooters, while avoiding the sidewalk clutter challenges that have plagued other cities.

The partnership also provides an alternative form of transportation to public transit ride-sharing as regions begin to reopen from Covid-19 lockdowns.
